First, you should determine the acceptable range of pricing that you can afford. Once this has been established, you should start by visiting Real Estate Agencies covering the area of interest; in this case, Dallas. From the websites, you should be able to get a good sense of the size, type and style of housing that fits into your range. Dallas should also have a MLS website, usually sponsored by the local Realtor's Association, that would list most homes which are on the MLS listings. You should contact selected Real Estate Agents and schedule visits, or simply to obtain more information about properties that appear to have potential to you.

I would look in University Park or Highland Park, those are two of the best neighborhoods. If you can't find something there try north Dallas.
